from the lack of multiple preview images and detailed product description, it appears to be almost exactly the same as the Nike "RPM" backpack. not quite though. even though it is advertised as being bigger, it falls short in a few areas. there is no preview of the back, because, unlike the Nike RPM, it doesn't have any venting mesh. just plain Nylon like the rest of the bag. the laptop compartment padding does give the back padding, though.
i wasn't super impressed out of the box, as i was replacing a (godlike) almost 20yo Dakine "Park Pack" that was $75 at the time. Dakine sucks now, though, even though its build quality was far superior to most stuff manufactured. could do a lot worse, though, especially these days... just kind of disappointing, because it should be an amazing modular Molle backpack, that is perfect for city skating, but could be converted into a great 36h camping backpack with a few add-on Molle bags and carabiners. then it just falls short...
the state of the skate backpack market is really sad right now. this is probably one of the best, though. saying that, it has some pros with a lot of cons. on top of basically being the same as Nike RPM.
laptop compartment has velcro flap thing at the bottom to separate the charging block, which is nice, but the main compartment feels more like a mid-size bag compared to the 15 year old Dakine i was using. i use mine for groceries at points, and frozen pizza box needs corner bent to fit. six of talls, some limes in the mesh and some munchies fits perfect tho lol.
straps are comfortable with and without sternum strap, and they have mesh venting, but back doesn't have mesh and there is no waist strap. so, every time you pop the thing flops around, also, the straps should have the "yolk" design to increase carry weight potential while prevent tearing. carry strap is just plain disappointing.
Molle system is great, but side Molle are single row (RPM has proper double row mount), and don't know if they really intended people to use them (in general) as they don't sell any branded add-on bags, and standard Molle mount bags seem just a tiny bit off, which means bag is not the standard... got some standard Molle bags from Amazon. was an extra $40, but overall worth it considering slight lack of organization features. single Molle row on the sides are limiting. causing anything attached to hang and flop around. should be two rows. might be cost saving, might only be for carabiner type stuff, regardless, is short sighted.
side bags/water bottle holders are decent. however, zipper pockets are thin, so can't put in anything substantial, especially at the same time as a bottle e.g. wallet or skate tool. use one as a wallet pocket, other side is bottle, keys and stuff are usually in Molle bag mounted between board carrier straps, and tool, wax, etc., are in side Molle bags that kind of flap from short sighted single row Molle mount. shoes and electronics (aside from phone) inside.
material is ok, and that would be ok, if it wasn't the same material EVERYWHERE. should have some extra reinforcements. if this is designed for skateboarding, then only 800d+ or an industrial diamond dobby stitch material is good enough, and should have reinforcements (Synthetic is ok) for bottom and the board carrier. if people use board carrier, then the grip is guaranteed to wear the bag.
overall probably a 7/10.
this backpack is awesome, got it for the skateboard straps. It has one more pouch than the backpack I have now and the drink pouches have zippers too which is awesome
Only thing it's missing is the bottom straps from its inspiration, the Nike RPM! Fits my 16" Lenovo Legion laptop no problem and, of course, is a great skate bag. Just wish it had those bottom straps...
Hey Dime,
It's great to know it's serving you well. We definitely hear you on those improvements we can make on the straps, we value your feedback!

Great backpack, plenty of storage room and a great design
Durable, convenient, overall cool look.
I love the design and the zipper/pocket placements, super convenient as a personal travel bag with straps for a board. I used it to fly with a complete plus a second board stacked on top. No issues with TSA.
Thanks a lot for the great feedback, Rob! We’re stoked to hear your Marana Backpack handled travel like a champ, even with two boards and a smooth TSA experience. Glad you’re loving the design and functionality, that’s exactly what it was made for!

MARANA BACKPACK
I love this bag for traveling with my board. It holds my personal items as well as my board.
This is actually my second one. The first one ripped after about four months. I was loading it pretty full though. So, this is my second chance to see how long this one will last.
This is now my favorite backpack. I've got six other backpacks of different brands, but this one is my new permanent day to day go to. So many pockets to use. I hope you never stop making this backpack.
MARANA BACKPACK
This fits my 8.75" width popsicle board with rails. Vans backpack did not. I'm very satisfied with this backpack and will try out some shoes next. Late 90s early 2000s Etnies were my favored shoe.
Perfect
THANKS
I love the backpack so much it’s perfect I’m now a huge fan of Etnies I will buy more stuff from them Etnies has good products thanks Etnies
